Membership Resources

This is where you can find rehearsal learning tracks; YouTube links; useful information about wardrobe; and rehearsal expectations. Check it often as it is updated with current information.

REHEARSALS & MUSICAL INSTRUCTION

Members are expected to attend all rehearsals. Members come to this choir with widely varying levels of musical experience. In order for the choir to learn the necessary repertoire, and to show respect for the Music Director and each other, members are expected to be present and be ready to rehearse on time. Please be considerate of the other singers by refraining from conversations during rehearsal time.

Please bring to every rehearsal/performance

  • a pencil to make notations on the sheet music (no pen marks please).

  • your sheet music as we do not have spare copies available.

  • Please bring a mask with you to wear during rehearsal.

  • a water bottle with you to keep you refreshed.

Learning tools such as YouTube links and learning tracks may be provided to assist in the learning of repertoire, but it is expected that members will do some musical “homework” in between practices.

SHEET MUSIC

All sheet music and performance binders provided to members are either owned by Westshore Singers, or are on loan to Westshore Singers from various community organizations, and must be returned at the end of each term, or upon request. Sheet music may be marked only with a pencil, not with ink or highlighter, and must be erased of all markings before being returned. At the end of the season, members will be charged replacement cost for lost music or binders.

SCENT-FREE ZONE

All practices and performances are scent-free to ensure that those members who have allergies or reactions to scents have a space where they can lend their voices and talents to the continuous development of the choir.

PERFORMANCE WARDROBE

Performance wardrobe is black footwear (closed toe and avoid high heels); black hose/socks; black skirt/dress/pants; black shirt (long sleeve or 3/4 length). Footwear should be comfortable to stand in for up to an hour.

Accessories/colours will be indicated prior to each performance, by the Artistic Team.

Music Brings People Together

“Getting together and singing a variety of lovely songs. I learn about improving my voice through breathing etc. Our practices are like fun lessons!”

Rosemary B.

“I arrived as a new minister to the Interlake in 2009 and my first Sunday I was invited to join some other folk to sing with Westshore Choir.  I had no real musical skills, but loved to sing.

That was all that was required and I have sung with the choir ever since!”

Beth

“It' s always a toss-up between my fingers, brain and bi-focals!”

Ginny Parent, Accompanist

“ I wanted to join a choir closer to home and having attended concerts in the past, decided to try Westshore Singers. I was humbled by the amazing talent of its members, and have learned so much in my short time with the choir.”

Leah M.

“I often mused that it would be fun to conduct a large group again and when Ginny Parent asked if I would be interested in conducting the Westshore Singers I couldn’t resist! Working with this group has been a real joy! They actually listen to what I am saying (well, most of the time) and it's not my job to set up chairs and print programs. The choir’s openness to trying new music, dedication to attending practices, working hard and making beautiful music is inspiring!”
